Dance Performer and Choreographer Stacy McConnell Joins Riverwalk Academy

Riverwalk Academy is excited to announce that dance education professor, performer, and choreographer Stacy McConnell is joining the staff of Riverwalk Academy. In addition to her tenured career at Winthrop University as a professor of dance, Ms. McConnell studied at Columbia College and Florida State University. She’s also studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center’s Summer Intensive and the American Dance Festival.

“We are excited to have Ms. McConnell join the Riverwalk Academy staff,” says Dr. Compton, Riverwalk Academy Head of School. “In addition to being a performer and choreographer, Ms. McConnell has also spent many years at Winthrop teaching dance methodology and dance appreciation to both dance educators, and general education teachers. Her performing experience and familiarity with Riverwalk Academy is a perfect fit.”

Ms. McConnell is replacing Ms. Carla Sciandra (Ms. Sci-Sci), who announced her departure today to the staff and students. Ms. Sci-Sci recently accepted a position with the Clover County School District. “I wish Ms. Sci-Sci the best of luck at her new role,” says Dr. Compton. “I know working with the dance program in Clover has been a goal of hers for quite some time. I appreciate the two years that she spent at Riverwalk Academy helping start our dance program and helping students gain an appreciation for and build confidence with their dance abilities.”
