Brinkley and North Elected to the Board

On April 23, 2019, it was announced that the Board had two elected positions that were expiring on June 30, 2019. Four parents submitted their nominations for the two open spots. The online elections, which were managed by the Public Charter School Alliance of SC, were held on May 26 and May 27 where current parents and staff members were eligible to vote. As a result, Janet North, a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, and Amy Brinkley, a Connections Director with Impact Church, were elected to the Board. Both will serve a two-year term, which begins on July 1, 2019 and expires on June 30, 2021.

Riverwalk Academy has contracted with the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina (PCSASC) to administer this year’s election process. This ensures integrity and confidentiality in the process.

The governing board consists of 4 appointed members and 5 elected members.  There are currently 2 seats up for election.  

Election Timeline

May 15th, 2019: Call for Candidates will be distributed to the public. Each prospective board member must complete an online filing form. PCSASC will have these available online for submission/distribution. Links will be created from Riverwalk Academy’s site (click here).

May 21st, 2019:  Close of candidate filing period. Acceptance of candidate filings will be closed at 5pm EST.

May 22nd, 2019: Candidate Information and Application Answers posted online.  

May 23rd- 24th, 2019: Voting open with e-ballot links emailed to each parent/guardian and employee of Riverwalk Academy. Voting will open on May 23rd, 2019 at 8am and close on May 24th, 2019 at 4pm.There is one vote per child enrolled in the school and one vote per employee.  Voting will be available via e-ballot allowing parents and employees to vote via the internet. Each ballot will have a unique pin number to ensure confidentiality and integrity of the process. Computers and paper ballots will be available at the school during normal school hours for families with no internet access or with limited computer knowledge.  

May 28th, 2019: Election results will be certified and announced publicly during the May 28, 2019 Board Meeting.

July 2019: During the July Board meeting, the newly elected board members will be sworn in. This will complete the election process. 

Meeting and Training Requirements

Riverwalk Academy Board Members are required to attend all board meetings. Mandated Board Training – All board members are required to attend board training within 1 year of being elected.  Free trainings will be offered across the state and online with the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina.

Riverwalk Academy Adds Four New Board Members

Rock Hill, SC – During a regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, May 21, 2018, it was announced that the following members would be joining the Riverwalk Academy Board effective July 1, 2018. Elections were held in May and votes were cast by parents and guardians of Riverwalk Academy students and by the staff.

Elected Members:

Mr. Michael Riddle, a parent of a Riverwalk Academy student

  • Two Year Term, July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2020

Ms. Joy Terhune, a parent of a Riverwalk Academy student

  • Two Year Term, July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2020

Mr. Mark “Ben” Ignatoiwicz, a parent of a Riverwalk Academy student

  • Two Year Term, July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2020

Additionally, by a unanimous vote, Mr. Lawrence Black, a parent of a Riverwalk Academy student, was appointed to serve a two-year term that begins on July 1, 2018  and lasts until June 30, 2020.
