1/2 Day for Solar Eclipse

Dear Riverwalk Academy Families,

As you all are aware, we will be having our first total solar eclipse since 1979 on August 21, 2017. This eclipse will occur at approximately 2:40 PM in our area. During this event, the moon will move in between the Earth and the Sun, causing darkness to fall upon the area. In an effort to keep parents from having to choose between sending their children to school or allowing them to remain home to experience this event with family, Riverwalk Academy will be dismissing at 11:30 AM on August 21, 2017. This will allow ample time for safe travels to pick up your child(ren) from school and return home prior to the eclipse taking place. This will also allow our staff to gather with their loved ones to take part in this historical event. Several other school districts, including Rock Hill School District, will also be dismissing early on this day.

Our PBL Coach, Ms. Lauren Wilson, is planning several educational activities to gear our students up for the eclipse. We are very excited about this event and about the wonderful things planned for this school year.

We look forward to seeing you in August!
