Riverwalk Academy students in grades 3-8 made significant academic gains in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science in the 2022-2023 school year, according to the latest assessment data released by the South Carolina Department of Education.
In ELA, Riverwalk Academy elementary students outperformed the state in every grade level and exceeded pre-pandemic scores in all three subjects. Middle school students also outperformed the state in two of the three grade levels in ELA.
In math, Riverwalk Academy elementary and middle school students outperformed the local school district and outperformed the state in a majority of its grade levels.
In science, Riverwalk Academy’s elementary students outperformed the local school district and did equally as well as the state.
"These results demonstrate the collective commitment made by our staff and our administrators," said Dr. Robert Compton, Head of School of Riverwalk Academy. "With the help of the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET), our focus last year was to be intentional about developing and supporting exemplary instructional practices, and maximizing the time that leaders were focused on instruction through effective structures. These results validate the intentionality and determination of our staff and students."
Compton added, “We all were thrilled with our outcomes, but we also recognize that it’s not the time for us to become complacent. We’re going to use this big win to help us push forward as we continue to strive for ongoing excellence.”
The high school test scores for Riverwalk Academy have not yet been released.

Riverwalk Academy elementary students' scores increased in ELA, Math, and Science from the 2021-2022 school year to the 2022-2023 school year.
Riverwalk Academy middle school students' scores also increased in all three subjects from the previous school year.
