Rock Hill, SC — July 15, 2025 — Riverwalk Academy is pleased to announce two key coaching updates for its athletic programs.

Mary Palmer has been named the new Head Swim Coach. A Fort Mill native, Palmer grew up as a competitive swimmer, training with Team Charlotte, In My Wake, and the Upper Palmetto Rays. She competed for Nation Ford High School before swimming collegiately at Lees-McRae College. Over the past five years, she has shared her expertise through private swimming lessons, helping young athletes grow their skills and passion for the sport.

“I have a true passion for swimming and am so excited for my new future at Riverwalk Academy,” said Palmer. “I look forward to working with our swimmers and helping them reach their potential, both in and out of the pool.”

Additionally, Missy George has been promoted from Junior Varsity to Varsity Volleyball Head Coach. Coach George brings a wealth of experience and a passion for student-athlete development to the program. With seven years of coaching experience, including two years as a student assistant at Baptist Bible College, she has built a strong foundation in leadership, player development, and team building.

Now in her third year as a high school science teacher at Riverwalk Academy, Coach George enters her second year coaching at the school. Her familiarity with the student body, commitment to excellence both on and off the court, and her dedication to fostering a positive team culture make her a tremendous asset to the Lion family.

“Coach George has demonstrated a clear vision for the growth of our volleyball program,” said Riverwalk Academy Athletic Director, Ricard Ball. “Her enthusiasm, coaching knowledge, and commitment to our student-athletes’ academic and athletic success are exactly what we need as we continue to build a competitive and character-driven program.”

Originally from western New York, Coach George now resides in Rock Hill with her daughter, Hannah. Her connection to the community and her focus on mentorship align closely with Riverwalk Academy’s values of integrity, perseverance, and leadership.

“I’m honored to lead the varsity volleyball program at Riverwalk Academy,” said George. “I look forward to building a strong, supportive team culture where our athletes can grow not only in their volleyball skills, but also as leaders and teammates.”

“We are thrilled to have such talented coaches leading our student-athletes,” said Dr. Robert Compton, Head of School. “Both Mary and Missy embody the spirit of Riverwalk Academy and will undoubtedly make a positive impact on their teams.”
