ROCK HILL, S.C. — June 29, 2026 — Riverwalk Academy today announced leadership updates within its middle and high school programs for the upcoming school year, designed to strengthen instructional support and provide focused leadership for grades 6–12.
Mr. Richard Ball will continue serving as High School Principal and Athletic Director, providing steady leadership for Riverwalk Academy's high school students, staff, and families, building on the culture of growth, ownership, and development of the whole student focus that he's helped establish.
Dr. Christina Dempsey, who has served as the Middle School Principal for the past four years, will step into a newly created role as Dean of Instruction for grades 6–12, the school's first dedicated instructional leadership position at the secondary level, a role designed to leverage her greatest strength. Building on the instructional impact she has already made at the middle school, Dr. Dempsey will focus on instructional coaching, professional learning, and curriculum support, helping teachers across the secondary program continue to grow in their practice.
Mr. Kyle Cannon, who served as Riverwalk Academy's Assistant Principal for grades 6–12 this past year, will become the Middle School Principal. Mr. Cannon brings significant leadership experience to the role, including 12 years of experience as a high school assistant principal and principal. Having already worked closely with Riverwalk's secondary students and staff, he is well-positioned to make this a seamless transition for the middle school community.
"These moves let us put each leader where their strengths matter most," said Dr. Robert Compton, Head of School. "Investing in a dedicated Dean of Instruction reflects our belief that great teaching is the engine of student growth, and I'm confident this team will make next year our strongest yet for our secondary students."
The updated structure reflects Riverwalk Academy's continued focus on academic growth, strong instructional practices, and student-centered leadership.
