Tessa Wilson, former high school athlete and coach, is named Athletic Director at Riverwalk Academy.
Wilson, who has an impressive resume as a former high school volleyball player and coach, will assume her new role as Athletic Director for Riverwalk Academy.
“I am excited to build the athletic program at Riverwalk. My goal is to continue our school's tradition of creating leaders of tomorrow. I believe by participating in sports and working with our great coaches, our student-athletes will learn valuable life skills and build character to help them succeed in life. From personal experience, sports have shaped me into the person I am today,” said Wilson
While attending Irmo High School, Wilson was an integral member of the school’s 4A State Runner-up team and was named to the 2004 Volleyball All-Region Team, All-Conference Team, and All-Star Team. Wilson joined Riverwalk Academy in 2017 and has served as a kindergarten teaching assistant and varsity girls cross country and girls track coach.
In 2018, under the leadership of Head of School, Dr. Robert Compton, the school began offering high school athletics. In 2019, the school was accepted into the SC High School League.
“Since 2018, Coach Wilson has played an important role in building the school’s athletic program. She has served as the school’s Girls Cross Country and Girls Track head coach. In 2019, she led her girls cross country team to earn the school’s first athletic region championship,” said Dr. Compton.
Riverwalk Academy is currently in 1A, Region 2 and as part of the 2022 realignment, the school will move over to Region 3 (1A) where they will compete against CA Johnston, Governor’s School for Math and Science, Great Falls, Lewsiville, McBee, and Midland’s Stem.
For the 2022 - 2023 school year, Riverwalk is planning to offer the following sports:
