I want to share an update regarding school operations for Tuesday.
While many of the main roads in our area are clear, we continue to have concerns about untreated neighborhood and back roads, particularly with temperatures expected to drop overnight. These conditions increase the risk of refreezing, which can create hazardous driving conditions early in the morning, especially for student drivers, families, and staff traveling from multiple directions.
Out of an abundance of caution, and with safety as our top priority, Riverwalk Academy will operate on an eLearning Day on Tuesday.
Our team did spend several hours on campus clearing and preparing sidewalks and driveways so that we are ready for a safe return as soon as conditions allow.
We recognize that decisions like this can create challenges, and we truly appreciate your understanding and partnership as we prioritize the safety of our entire school community. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to campus as soon as it is safe to do so.
Thank you for your continued flexibility and support.
Warm regards,
Mr. Carroll

Due to this weekend’s record snowfall and the resulting unsafe driving conditions, Riverwalk Academy will operate on an eLearning Day on Monday, February 2.
In preparation, our teachers sent assignments home with students on Friday. For middle and high school students, those assignments will also be posted in Google Classroom by 9:00 a.m. on Monday. As a reminder, students will have up to five days to complete and submit their work. Teachers will be available throughout the day to support students as needed.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or building administrator:
Elementary: Ms. McCray
Middle School: Dr. Dempsey
High School: Mr. Ball
Special Education: Ms. Mitchell
Thank you for your continued partnership and flexibility as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
Warm regards,
Mr. Carroll

We would love to hear more about why you chose us as your students home for academic and character growth! There are a lot of other schools that you could be a part of, maybe they are closer to home, maybe they have a bigger campus, but you choose to come to Riverwalk Academy. We are truly thankful for that. Share YOUR why below! #NSCW2026 #riverwalkacademy #schoolchoiceweek #prideineverystep #whatisyourwhy #projectbasedlearning

I hope this message finds you well. This is to inform you that school will operate on a regular schedule tomorrow.
All classes, services, and activities will follow their normal start and end times. Please ensure that students arrive on time and are prepared for a full day of instruction.
Additionally, this is a reminder that students will have five (5) school days, beginning tomorrow, to turn in their e‑learning packets.
Thank you for your continued flexibility and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student's administrator or teacher.
We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Mr. Carroll

I hope you are doing well and staying warm. I’m writing to share an important update regarding Tuesday.
While road conditions improved throughout the day today, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing this evening and remain below freezing through noon on Tuesday. With moisture still present on roadways, these conditions create a high risk of refreezing and black ice, particularly on neighborhood roads, bridges, and during the early morning commute.
Out of an abundance of caution, and with the safety of our students, families, and staff as our top priority, Riverwalk Academy will continue with an eLearning Day on Tuesday.
Students should follow the same eLearning procedures used today. If internet access is a challenge, students will have five (5) school days to complete assignments once we return to campus. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or an administrator.
We will continue to monitor conditions closely and will communicate clearly regarding our plan to return to in-person learning as soon as it is safe to do so.
Thank you for your flexibility, understanding, and continued partnership.
Stay safe and warm,
Warm regards,
Chris Carroll
Family Engagement Coordinator

I hope you are doing well. I’m writing to keep you informed as we closely monitor the weather forecast for this weekend, which includes the potential for a winter storm with freezing temperatures and possible ice that could lead to unsafe driving conditions and power outages.
Our administrative team is actively tracking conditions and preparing for multiple scenarios to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families. Depending on how the weather develops, there is a possibility that we may need to implement an e-Learning Day early next week. No decision has been made at this time; however, we want families to know that we are planning ahead and will communicate clearly and promptly if a change to the school schedule becomes necessary.
As always, any decision regarding school operations will be made with safety as our top priority. We will share updates through our usual communication channels should conditions warrant adjustments.
In the meantime, we encourage families to take a few simple steps to stay safe and prepared during winter weather and potential power outages:
Dress in layers and limit time outdoors during extremely cold temperatures.
Check on elderly neighbors or family members who may need additional support.
Keep phones and devices charged, and have flashlights and extra batteries readily available.
Let faucets drip slightly and open cabinet doors to help prevent frozen pipes.
If using space heaters or fireplaces, follow all safety guidelines and never leave them unattended.
Additional winter weather safety information can be found on the SC Emergency Managment’s website.
Thank you for your partnership and flexibility as we navigate the winter weather season together. We appreciate your trust and will continue to keep you informed as conditions evolve.
Stay warm and safe,
~Mr. Chris Carroll,
