Cesar Chavez was a prominent American labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association. Ellen Ochoa, born on May 10, 1958, is an accomplished American engineer, former astronaut, and former director of the Johnson Space Center. In 1993, Ochoa made history as the first Latina woman to venture into space during a memorable nine-day mission aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. Following the retirement of the previous director, Michael Coats, on December 31, 2012, Ochoa assumed the role of director at the center.
